I’m Carlene Nisbett, founder of Femmeprenista, & I want to share a little bit about who we are, not just as a platform, but as a community, a philosophy, & honestly, a piece of my heart. Because Femmeprenista wasn’t born from a business plan brainstorm; it was forged in the fires of real life – my life.

The Spark: A Journey of Juggles, Leaps & Lessons

My story, like many of yours, isn’t a straight line. It’s a wonderfully messy, beautifully chaotic tapestry woven with threads of motherhood (four amazing children who are my world, plus our two adorable Miniature Pinschers – let’s just say they keep things lively!), ambitious career moves, academic deep-dives, & that persistent entrepreneurial itch. You know how it is, right?

For years, I navigated the corporate world, working with giants like Apple & Electrolux. & while I gained invaluable experience, there were times I felt like a “replaceable cog,” my contributions sometimes lost in the machine, & the recognition, well, it wasn’t always there in the way you’d hope. Honestly, being creative in those spaces felt impossible. I vividly remember the dread I felt after my third child at the prospect of returning to an environment that often felt misaligned – where the expectation was to deliver work worthy of a hefty salary for, let’s just say, considerably less. The policies around family life often felt… restrictive. I mean, these kids are off school for about 12-13 weeks a year, right? Show me the parent who gets that much holiday! It just didn’t add up.

The real “aha!” moment, though, began brewing during my MBA at Cranfield University. Now, that was an experience! I remember the taster day like it was yesterday – it was like a little explosion went off in my head, all this new information, so exciting! Initially, I thought the MBA would be my ticket to a more senior corporate role, more options. But as I immersed myself in strategic thinking, surrounded by incredible minds, a different truth emerged. Even with a top-tier MBA, climbing higher up someone else’s ladder wouldn’t necessarily give me the quality of life, the autonomy, or the direct impact I craved. So the central question became, “Isn’t life about the quality of it, not just how much you’ve got in your pocket?”

That insight reconnected me powerfully to an entrepreneurial spirit that had been there since I was a kid selling sweets in the playground. My early venture, Nisbett & George, co-founded during university after the E-Factor competition (a real “now or never” moment as a new mother to my eldest), had already taught me so much about the unique challenges & dedication required when you’re building a business with a baby on your hip. I remember the early days of motherhood & entrepreneurship where things were tough. It was like, trying to get all the bits done & just feeling like there was a lot to handle. That was tough, but I learnt so much during that time. These experiences, combined with my ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship, started to paint a very clear picture.

Seeing the Gap: Why Femmeprenista Was Born

I looked around & saw so many brilliant, ambitious female entrepreneurs, especially mothers, full of incredible ideas & a fierce drive to succeed. But I also saw them struggling, often in silence. They were drowning in “hustle culture” advice that simply didn’t fit their lives, feeling isolated, & longing for support that honoured every part of who they are – the CEO, the mum, the partner, the individual.

I saw the need for a space that:

• Understood the “beautiful chaos” & didn’t expect you to pretend it wasn’t happening.
• Championed building a business that fuels your life, rather than drains it.
• Provided expert strategy without the corporate stiffness.
• Fostered a genuine community, not just a networking group.

Turns out, my payment system wasn’t properly integrated. I felt sick to my stomach, like I’d let everyone down. Cue a flurry of frantic emails from confused customers, missed sales, & a whole lot of unnecessary stress. That was the day I realised a robust system wasn’t just a nice-to-have, it was the backbone of my business. Now, I integrate AI via our Fusion pillar and teach these strategies in our Momentum coaching.

& I know, with absolute certainty, that female entrepreneurs are inherently powerful, creative, & resourceful.
