Five pillars sound tidy on a page. In a real week, one of them is usually leaking while the others look fine.
Maybe the offer is clear but the diary is chaos. Maybe the systems work and your energy does not. Treating every pillar as equally urgent is how overwhelm dresses up as strategy.
Start with a short check. Name the cracked pillar. Fix that first.
How to use this self-check
The full Business Flourish Framework is explained in the original post. This is the quick diagnostic version, a light Freedom Score you can do in ten minutes. For each pillar, read the signals and give yourself one point for every statement that is true right now. Do not overthink it. First answer is fine.
Focus
- I can name my top three priorities for this quarter without checking notes.
- My offer is clear enough that I can explain it in one sentence.
- I said no to at least one opportunity this month.
- My week has time blocked for work that grows the business.
Flair
- My website, bio, and emails sound like the same person.
- I know who my best-fit client is and I write to her.
- I feel comfortable sharing my prices.
- People who refer me describe my work accurately.
Flow
- Client onboarding follows the same steps every time.
- I could take a week off without the business stopping.
- I know where my documents, templates, and passwords live.
- Admin happens in set blocks, not all day.
Fuel
- I have at least one protected block of rest each week.
- I rarely work evenings unless I chose to.
- I have energy for the people at home at the end of the day.
- I notice when I am running on empty before I crash.
Fusion
- My tools talk to each other, or at least do not fight.
- I have someone to think out loud with about the business.
- I use support — people or tools — to make decisions, not just do tasks.
- My business and life priorities point in the same direction.
Find your lowest score
Add up each pillar out of four. The lowest one is your cracked pillar this quarter. If two tie, choose the one that annoys you most on a Monday morning.
One repair action per pillar
- Focus is lowest: write a stop-doing list of three things and remove them from your diary this week.
- Flair is lowest: rewrite your one-sentence promise and update your bio with it.
- Flow is lowest: document one process you repeat every week, step by step.
- Fuel is lowest: put one non-negotiable recovery block in the diary and treat it like a client call.
- Fusion is lowest: book one conversation with someone who can challenge your thinking, or remove one tool that creates more work than it saves.
One action. Not five. The other pillars can wait a few weeks.
Check again next quarter
Scores move. A pillar that was fine in spring can crack in a busy autumn term. Repeat the check every quarter and keep the results in one place so you can see the pattern.
A Freedom By Design Strategy Session (£397) can turn that one cracked pillar into a 90-day Freedom Blueprint — tidycal.com/carlene/freedom-by-design.
Which pillar scored lowest for you, and what one action will you take this week?
