Agency is not only a life story. It shows up in the boring choices: what you put on the sales page, what you refuse to offer, which “everyone does this” tactic you quietly skip.

If you have ever felt like a square peg in round marketing advice, good. That friction is useful data.

This piece turns that questioning habit into three brand decisions you can make this month — without rewriting your whole origin story.

Question the default, briefly

The habit of asking “is this actually the best way?” has served plenty of women founders well. The personal story behind it lives in the original post. Here we apply it to the practical stuff: your offer, your pricing, your channels, and your boundaries.

Decision 1: Audit your default offer

Many service businesses start with a package that came from somewhere else — a course template, a competitor, or a guess. Ask:

  • Did I design this offer, or did I inherit it?
  • Which part of delivery do I dread, and which part do clients value most?
  • If I removed one element, would anyone notice?
  • Does the shape of this offer suit my diary and energy?

Mark anything that exists only because “that is how it is done.” Those are your first candidates to change.

Decision 2: Pricing and packaging that protect your calendar

Default advice often pushes hourly rates, endless calls, or big launches. None of those are compulsory. Consider:

  • A fixed-scope package instead of open-ended hours
  • Set delivery days, so client work does not leak into every afternoon
  • Fewer, clearer tiers instead of a menu of add-ons
  • Payment terms that do not leave you chasing invoices

Price and package the work so it fits the life you are designing. That is brand, too.

Decision 3: Choose channels by energy, not FOMO

You do not have to be on every platform. Pick the channel where you enjoy showing up and where your clients already are. Ask:

  • Where do my best clients actually come from?
  • Which channel can I keep up during a busy school term?
  • Which one drains me for little return?

Dropping a channel you resent is a brand decision. Consistency in one place beats panic in five.

Your “we don’t do X” list

Write a short brand boundary list. It makes decisions faster and attracts people who like how you work. Examples:

  • We don’t take calls after 3pm.
  • We don’t offer rush delivery.
  • We don’t run countdown-timer launches.
  • We don’t do unpaid strategy calls.

Put a softened version on your website or in your onboarding. Clients respect clear edges.

Flair and Focus together

In the Business Flourish Framework, Flair is how your business shows up, and Focus is what it chooses to do. Saying no to the default offer strengthens both: your brand becomes recognisable, and your week becomes manageable.
